Frequently asked questions
Is this password generator safe?
Yes. Passwords are created right in your browser using its built-in secure random generator. They are never sent to us or stored anywhere.
How long should my password be?
We recommend at least 16 characters for important accounts. Every extra character makes a password much harder to guess.
What makes a password strong?
A strong password is long, random and unique. Mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols helps, but length matters most.
Should I use the same password on different websites?
No. Use a different password for every account, so one leaked password can't unlock your other accounts.
How do I remember all these passwords?
Use a password manager. It stores your passwords securely and fills them in for you, so you only need to remember one master password.
What is a memorable password?
It's made of random everyday words, a number and a symbol, like Maple-Rocket-Cloud-Tiger-Piano-427!. It's much easier to remember than random characters and still strong, because the words are picked at random.
Can I add my own word?
Yes. In Memorable mode, type a word like a pet's name and it's mixed in with the random words. Avoid your name, birthday or anything people could find out about you, because those are the first things attackers try.
What does the strength meter mean?
It estimates how hard the password would be to guess, based on its length and the types of characters it uses. Aim for Strong or Very strong.
