Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Images are compressed right in your browser on your own device. They are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.

Is this image compressor free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.

What quality should I choose?

A quality of 70 to 80 usually makes files much smaller while the image still looks the same to the eye. Go lower for the smallest files, or higher for photos where every detail matters.

Which format makes the smallest files?

WebP usually gives the smallest files and works in all modern browsers. JPG is best when you need the widest compatibility. PNG keeps full quality and transparency, but files stay larger.

Why didn't my PNG get smaller?

PNG is a lossless format, so the quality setting doesn't apply. To shrink a PNG, set a smaller maximum width or convert it to WebP or JPG.

What does "already optimized" mean?

The image was already well compressed, and re-saving it would make it bigger. In that case we keep your original file so you never get a larger one.
