Which barcode type should I use?
Use EAN-13 for products sold in stores worldwide, UPC-A for products sold in the USA and Canada, and Code 128 for shipping labels, inventory and anything with letters.
Can I use these barcodes to sell products in stores?
The barcodes are technically correct, but retailers usually require product numbers that are officially registered to your company through GS1. Get your number from GS1 first, then create the barcode image here.
What is a check digit?
It's the last digit of EAN and UPC barcodes, calculated from the other digits so scanners can spot mistakes. If you enter the number without it, we calculate it for you.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
PNG works everywhere and is great for screens and documents. SVG stays perfectly sharp at any size, so it's best for printing labels and packaging.
Why won't my barcode scan?
Keep dark bars on a light background with strong contrast, don't print it too small, and leave some empty space around it. Very light bar colors or dark backgrounds can stop scanners from reading it.
